Orzo With Spinach and Feta
While orzo looks like rice, it’s actually a pasta! Serve this dish immediately to get the best creaminess effect, thanks to the parmesan cheese, feta, and almond milk. And, of course, we have to get some greens and herbs in with the addition of spinach and parsley.

One-Pan Orzo Ingredients
- Olive oil: used to coat the braiser.
- Garlic: for flavor.
- Orzo: I use a whole bag of orzo for this recipe. You can find orzo in the pasta section of grocery stores.
- Lemon juice: this adds a little zing to the dish.
- Unsweetened plain almond milk (or milk of choice): you can use any unsweetened, plain milk here (plant-based or regular); alternatively, you can substitute the milk for vegetable broth or use half almond milk and half water.
- Salt: used for flavor.
- Parmesan cheese: the parmesan cheese adds flavor and creaminess to the orzo.
- Feta cheese: used to add some zing and flavor to the orzo.
- Spinach: I love adding greens when I can to our meals! Feel free to sub spinach out for another preferred veggie!
- Parsley: to brighten the flavors of the dish.
How to Make One-Pan Orzo With Spinach and Feta
I recommend using Larder & Vine’s Braiser for this recipe! You can use my code SUPERMOMEATS to get 20% off your order. If you don’t have their braiser, you can use a regular large pan or pot that has a lid.
STEP 1 – Saute garlic and coat orzo
Heat the olive oil in the braiser over medium-low heat. Add garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds. Add the orzo and toss to coat it with olive oil.
STEP 2 – Cook orzo
Add lemon juice, almond milk, and salt and stir to combine. Cover and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat and cook, covered, for approximately 6-7 minutes until the orzo is al dente.
STEP 3 – Stir in cheese, spinach, and parsley
Turn the heat off and stir in parmesan, feta, spinach, and parsley until well combined. Serve immediately to maintain the recipe’s creaminess!
How to Store Cooked Orzo
Store any leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for about 3-5 days. I like adding some olive oil on top when reheating to make sure it doesn’t get too dry.
How to Customize This Dish for Kids
If your kids are anything like mine, they can be picky. Here are some ideas for how you can serve this dish to your kids, without much extra work on your part:
- The easiest way is to scoop out some plain orzo after it is al dente and you have added the parmesan cheese, but before you add the feta, spinach, and parsley (unless they are okay with those ingredients!). You can add pasta sauce to this if you think they’re like that. You can also add nutritious sides to their plate, like green beans, fruit, and avocado.
- Simply serve the dish as is (fully cooked and all ingredients added) and allow your kids to pick out the spinach and parsley if they don’t want it.
What to Serve With Orzo
- Crispy Oven-Roasted Green Beans With Slivered Almonds
- A simple side salad
- I would top it with some type of vegetarian protein source like roasted chickpeas, white beans, nuts, plant-based meatballs, or plant-based sausage.

Green olives, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted chickpeas, white beans, plant-based meatballs or sausage, or almond slivers are all yummy toppings!
Sure! Since the spinach is added after the heat is turned off, you’ll want another green that can wilt quickly. You could try swapping it for kale, chard, collard greens, or dandelion greens.
For this recipe, I used my Larder & Vine enamel-coated cast-iron braiser in white. It has a lid, so I’m easily able to cover the orzo for that step in the cooking process. You can use my code: SUPERMOMEATS to get 20% off any Larder & Vine product!
You can, however, I recommend not making it ahead of time because it will lose its creamy effect. It is best when served right away.
